Before beginning the journey in becoming a psychotherapist, I earned a Masters in Public Health on the Community Track from Touro University in Vallejo, CA. The research project I focused on, the correlation of literacy and health literacy for previously incarcerated clients, informed my practice of the influence society and one's environment can have on a person's physical and emotional well-being. As a graduate student, I began developing a larger and richer world view which I carried over to my next step.
I earned my Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University in New York City specializing in Advanced Clinical Practice. During this time, I interned at a legal firm advocating for tenant rights in all 5 boroughs and at a public elementary school in East New York providing individual, group and family therapy.
I returned to the San Francisco Bay Area upon graduation and focused on my work with children, teenagers and their families in both the school setting and outpatient clinical setting in San Jose, Palo Alto and Oakland for 3 years. I then worked with adult clients at an outpatient clinic in the Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood of San Francisco. After 2 years there, I transitioned to working for Lyon-Martin Health Services in 2014 where I served as an Integrated Behavioral Health Specialist and Mental Health Therapist.
I am excited to return working with children and teens while continuing with adults in a different setting!
My experience includes work with:
- family and couple systems
- gender identity
- harm reduction and substance use
- phase of life and transitions
- resilience and strength based work and
- trauma (EMDR Basic Trained).
